iPhone 13 Satellite feature to be available in select countries
- Apple is set to debut Leo-Satellite Technology on the next iPhones, according to Ming-Chi Kuo.
- New information hints that it may be available in select countries.
Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, (80.95% accurate) previously revealed that Apple is gearing up to debut LEO-Satellite technology on the new iPhone 13 series this upcoming Fall. LEO-Satellite technology would allow users to contact Emergency Services, even if they’re not receiving any cellular connectivity.
Reports from Bloomberg suggest that Apple has been working on this technology since 2017, and Cupertino could be working with GlobalStar Inc. on bringing LEO to the iPhone 13 lineup.
Ming-Chi Kuo also adds that LEO would only work to contact Emergency Services, and that calls to Non-Emergency services would still require Cellular connectivity.
“Some have asked me if these new features mean that the iPhone can be used as a satellite phone and have the ability to make calls anywhere in the world without cellular coverage. The answer is a big no. That’s not happening now, next year, or anytime in the near future.”
Mark Gurman (84.38% accurate) from Bloomberg adds that the hardware required for the new technology isn’t ready yet, and could lead to internal issues between Apple and carriers.
