  • An OLED screen might finally land with Apple's 2026 flagship notebook.
  • The 2026 MacBook Pro is rumored to have a "thin" redesign.
  • M6 chips could catapult the MacBook Pro beyond anything we’ve seen so far—brace yourself.

Apple enthusiasts might have something big to look forward to in 2026: a “MacBook Pro ‘overhaul’” is on the horizon, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, who has been tracking Apple’s roadmap for years. While recent MacBook Pro updates have focused on chip upgrades and incremental internal changes, this upcoming model sounds like a major departure from current designs.

Brighter & Bolder OLED Screen

One of the most buzzworthy changes is the rumored shift to an OLED display. This technology, already introduced in the 2024 iPad Pro, should deliver more vibrant colors, higher contrast, and extra brightness. According to TheElec, Apple’s approach for the MacBook Pro involves a “two-stack tandem” OLED configuration—stacking two red, green, and blue layers to achieve longer-lasting brightness and clarity. By contrast, a future MacBook Air with OLED is likely to get just a single-stack panel, meaning it would have one layer of RGB. While single-stack may still offer impressive picture quality, two-stack tandem OLED in the MacBook Pro should take screen performance up a notch.

Meanwhile, research firm Omdia claims Apple might shrink the camera housing to a “rounded corner + hole cut”. Although it’s unclear whether this shape will match the iPhone’s “Dynamic Island,” it could be less intrusive than the current notch.

Slimmer & Sleeker

If you’re tired of lugging around a heavier notebook, there’s more good news. Gurman’s sources suggest Apple wants a thinner MacBook Pro in 2026, though final design details remain under wraps. In one of his Power On newsletters, Gurman wrote:

Though Apple has continued to enhance the product with new chips and other internal improvements, the MacBook Pro probably won’t get another true overhaul until 2026.— Mark Gurman, Bloomberg

He also noted that Apple “had once hoped to release this new version in 2025,” but display technology delays forced a later timeline.

A slimmer profile might not seem revolutionary at first glance, but for many fans, shaving off millimeters—and possibly weight—makes a tangible difference in everyday life. Still, there’s always a question of balancing a slim design with battery life and thermals. As someone who juggles a MacBook Pro for both work and streaming marathons, I’m personally hoping Apple finds that sweet spot.

The M6 Family

Under the hood, the next MacBook Pro is expected to house Apple’s M6 chip lineup. This generation will reportedly be built on TSMC’s 2nm process, which could mean notable performance boosts for tasks like video editing and software development, alongside better power efficiency. Apple watchers say we’ll see 14-inch and 16-inch models outfitted with M6, M6 Pro, and M6 Max variants. As usual, Apple’s exact clock speeds and specs remain a mystery, but the move to 2nm alone could be enough to get power users excited.

Price details aren’t official yet, but the current 14-inch MacBook Pro starts at $1,999 USD, and Apple typically positions Pro models at or above this range. If history is any guide, the redesigned MacBook Pro might hover around similar pricing, unless Apple decides to nudge things upward.

One More Thing...

Although the spotlight is on the 2026 MacBook Pro, Gurman also says this year’s MacBook Pro might get a simple bump to an M5 chip with few physical changes. Likewise, rumors suggest an M5 iPad Pro could launch later this year, with sources claiming it’s already in “advanced testing” and may hit shelves in the second half of 2025. These interim updates could tide over those who want the latest chip but aren’t looking for a drastic redesign.

The real show-stopper will likely arrive with the 2026 MacBook Pro overhaul. If Apple’s plan holds steady, we’ll see a powerhouse machine that merges an OLED display, thinner frame, and the mighty M6 family—all intended to push the MacBook Pro lineup forward.

From a personal standpoint, it’s exciting to witness Apple refine its design vision and incorporate cutting-edge technology. Whether it’s crisper visuals for creative projects or a more comfortable carry for folks constantly on the go, the 2026 MacBook Pro may turn heads the minute it’s announced.
