Apple may be working on a smart home display, rumors suggest

Apple Inc. is reportedly developing a new smart home accessory that will serve as a central hub for controlling and managing smart home devices. The new device is expected to have a display that resembles an iPad and will be designed to be mounted on walls and other objects using magnetic fasteners. The device will provide a centralized location for controlling HomeKit and Matter-connected products, making it easier to use than the current setup that requires an iPhone, iPad or Mac.

As per Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, the device will have a display similar to a low-end iPad and could be positioned in the most central part of the home, making it more integrated than an iPad. In addition to being a smart home control device, the display is expected to allow for video streaming and FaceTime calls, with a built-in speaker, making it a possible hybrid of an iPad and HomePod.
