Apple’s annual refresh of the Apple Watch is expected to take place this fall. While the rumors about new Apple Watch models tend to get overshadowed by iPhone rumors, we still know a few things about the upcoming Series 9. It seems that Apple will be putting most of its development resources into future Apple Watch technology for the larger-sized Ultra model, which means the Series 9 will have only minor improvements.
The S8 chip in the Apple Watch Series 8 is the same as the S7 chip in the Apple Watch Series 7, which is the same as the S6 in the Apple Watch Series 6. So, we could see a slightly updated S9 chip with minor performance improvements. Additionally, Apple added Bluetooth 5.3 to the Apple Watch Ultra in 2022, and it’s possible we could see it added to the Series 9 in 2023.

Battery life could potentially be improved if the processor is updated. This could also result in additional always-on display functionality or other tweaks. Apart from the new chip, the Series 9 is expected to offer the same feature set as the Series 8. However, Apple may be developing a new version of the Apple Watch Ultra with an even larger 2.1-inch display, alongside the transition to microLED.
Apple has been working on a noninvasive blood glucose monitoring function for the Apple Watch for years. While it's still years away, when it is introduced, it will be one of the biggest updates to the Apple Watch. Apple is rumored to be adopting microLED technology for the high-end Apple Watch as soon as 2024, which will bring brighter and more vibrant colors and improved viewing angles.

We expect to see an Apple Watch announcement this September, followed by a launch a week or two later. While there aren't many rumors about the Series 9, it's clear that Apple has made a steady stream of upgrades to the Apple Watch over the years. Currently, there are few rumors to run with for the Watch Series 9, but we'll be sure to update this article as we get more information.
