  • Apple has released the first public betas of iOS 17.6 and iPadOS 17.6, following the initial developer betas.
  • Public beta testers can access these updates by enabling the "Beta Updates" option in the Software Update section of the Settings app.
  • iOS 17.6 is expected to include bug fixes and under-the-hood improvements, with no new features discovered in the developer beta.
  • Apple has also seeded the first public betas for watchOS 10.6 and tvOS 17.6, likely focusing on stability and performance enhancements.

Apple today released the first public betas of the upcoming iOS 17.6 and iPadOS 17.6 updates, following the initial developer betas introduced a few days earlier. Public beta testers can access the beta by navigating to the Settings app, selecting Software Update, tapping on "Beta Updates," and enabling the iOS 17 or iPadOS 17 Public Beta option. Registration on Apple's beta testing website is necessary. iOS 17Image credit: MacTrast All the promised features for iOS 17 have already been implemented, making it unclear what new elements iOS 17.6 might include. No new features were identified in the developer beta, suggesting the update may primarily focus on refinements.

With Apple now concentrating on iOS 18, the iOS 17.6 update is expected to offer bug fixes and other behind-the-scenes improvements. This shift indicates a transitional period as Apple gears up for the next major iOS iteration.

In addition to iOS and iPadOS updates, Apple has also released the first public betas for watchOS 10.6 and tvOS 17.6. These updates are likely to follow a similar pattern, focusing on stability and performance enhancements as Apple prepares for future software developments.
