Only iPhone 15 Pro models will get WiFi 6E, report says
- The iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max models may have WiFi 6E connectivity, while the standard iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus will continue to use WiFi 6, according to a leaked antenna design document obtained by MacRumors.
- Apple is differentiating its Pro models from its standard models with the iPhone 15 line, including a titanium frame, more RAM, solid-state volume and power buttons, and the latest A16 chipset.
- WiFi 6E operates on the 6GHz band, promising faster wireless speeds, lower latency, and less signal interference than WiFi 6. To take advantage of these benefits, the device must be connected to a compatible WiFi 6E router.
- Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max in September, with all four models featuring the Dynamic Island and a USB-C port.
- Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has corroborated the report of the iPhone 15 models adopting WiFi 6E.
Apple's iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max models may have a significant advantage over their standard siblings, according to a leaked antenna design document. The document, obtained by MacRumors, shows that the Pro models will include WiFi 6E connectivity, while the standard iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus models will continue to use the older WiFi 6 standard. WiFi 6E promises faster connectivity speeds and lower latency, as long as the device is connected to a compatible WiFi 6E router.
This is not the first time Apple has differentiated between its Pro models and standard models. In the past, the Pro models were mainly for photography enthusiasts, but with the iPhone 14 line, only the Pro models came with the new A16 Bionic chip, Dynamic Island cutout, and ProMotion display. Now, the company is finding even more ways to differentiate the two, as the Pro models could also feature the upcoming A16 chipset, a titanium frame, more RAM, and solid-state volume and power buttons.
WiFi 6 operates on the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands, while WiFi 6E works over the 6GHz band, resulting in faster wireless speeds, lower latency, and less signal interference. However, to take advantage of these benefits, the device must be connected to a WiFi 6E router. Apple has added WiFi 6E support to some of its latest devices, including the latest iPad Pro, MacBook Pro, and Mac mini models, while all iPhone 14 models remain limited to standard WiFi 6.
Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max in September, with all four models featuring the Dynamic Island and a USB-C port. The Pro models are expected to include the latest A17 Bionic chip, a titanium frame, solid-state volume and power buttons, and more. Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has also corroborated the report and suggests that the iPhone 15 models will adopt WiFi 6E.
