  • Apple’s new iMac models will feature larger displays, slimmer bezels, Pro Display XDR-inspired design and new Apple Silicon chips, according to Mark Gurman.
  • He also noted that the redesigned Apple Silicon iMac models are likely to skip Face ID until the second-generation.
  • Further, Gurman later Tweeted saying that an Apple Event on March 16 is unlikely.

According to Mark Gurman (reliability: 84.38%), the first full iMac redesign in nearly a decade will happen “toward the end of this year.” He also mentioned that the redesigned iMac models will feature larger displays, slimmer bezels, Pro Display XDR-inspired design and new Apple Silicon chips. Interestingly, Gurman noted that the redesigned Apple Silicon iMac models are likely to skip Face ID in 2021. This may also suggest that we won’t see a Face ID-enabled MacBook Pro this year, which has been rumored for months to come in the second quarter of 2021. It’s unclear why the new iMacs won’t get Face ID, but the report states the feature will be present in the second iteration of Apple’s redesigned iMac range.

Customers can look forward to a new design, which reports claim will be inspired by the Pro Display XDR, along with slimmer bezels. We should also look forward to the M2 chipset Apple is said to be developing, though different info claims a ‘desktop-class’ 5nm A14T silicon is in the works.

Sadly, this means we may have to wait until 2022 to see Face ID debut on the iMac. At the same time, reports have mentioned that we may not see Face ID on Apple's updated MacBook Pro models next year. So, if you’re wanting your next Mac to feature Face ID — you may have to wait until 2022. Face ID is currently offered on the premium iPhone 12 lineup and the iPad Pro series. It was first introduced in 2017 when Apple officially announced the iPhone X. Earlier today, Gurman updated his audience with a Tweet to say that Apple is unlikely to have an event on March 16, a rumor that was put forward by several unreliable sources for several months. Regardless, Apple has historically held events in the month of March, so it's still bound to happen. Just don’t hold your hopes for March 16.
