What would a redesigned MacBook look like?
- Apple will allegedly introduce a range of Apple silicon Macs with an all-new form factor and industrial design in the second half of 2021
- Some are claiming that Apple will also announce redesigned Macs that include Intel chips
- The new designs will most likely include a thinner display bezel
- They may also include a rounded edge display design like the iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch
- Rumors circulated about the possibility of a Mac with a rounded edge display earlier in 2020, with the arrival of macOS Big Sur
Just a few weeks ago, Tim Cook was standing on stage in the Steve Jobs Theater introducing Apple’s new range of M1-powered Macs. The company announced significant upgrades to the internals of the new Mac models, but the externals remained mostly the same. This has led many people to speculate about when Apple may update the exterior look of their highly-popular notebooks, and how they may look.
We’ve been hearing a lot of rumors recently about Apple’s redesigned 2021 MacBook range. From rumors of a ‘whole new industrial design’ to the recent rumors of multiple new sizes and configurations, it seems like some big changes are coming.
Right now, Apple’s MacBook range is the only major Apple device with a screen that doesn’t have an edge-to-edge display with rounded corners. The company's newest iPhones, iPad Air and iPad Pro, as well as the recent editions of Apple Watch, have displays that follow the rounded industrial design of their products. So, it would make sense that Apple would push the display closer to the edges on at least one model of MacBook in 2021. As you may recall, rumors picked up about this topic earlier in 2020 when Apple introduced updates with macOS Big Sur that included significantly more rounded edges throughout the UI.
Earlier this month, reliable leaker Ming-Chi Kuo (reliability: 80.95%) stated that Apple will introduce a new range of Apple silicon Macs with an all-new form factor and industrial design in the second half of 2021. On top of that, Lovet0dream (reliability: 93.55%) claimed that Apple will also announce redesigned Macs that include Intel chips. Many in the industry expect a redesigned 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models as well as a smaller Mac Pro to come in 2021, but no reliable source has come forward with information about what a ‘redesign’ may entail.
