Alexa app updated with new home screen widget
- Amazon is the latest major developer to begin rolling out widgets to their apps.
- The Alexa app has gained a direct shortcut to activate the assistant.
Amazon has updated the Alexa app for iPhone and iPad with support for the new widgets in iOS 14 and later.
The latest update to the app, available now, introduces a new ‘Ask Alexa’ widget. The widget is currently available in small size and invokes the Alexa assistant on interacting with.
On iOS 14 and higher, you can now add the new Ask Alexa widget to your Home Screen and tap to talk to Alexa.
Alexa was recently updated with a new male-sounding voice option, ‘Ziggy’ wake word, and redesigned app icon. The new features should be rolling out now to users in the U.S, although Apple Scoop was able to verify that the new widget and app icon are available globally.
