COVID-19
  • Apple employees will not return to the office until at least January.
  • Employees may not be required to be vaccinated.
  • Some employees do not wish to return to the office ever.

After scheduling its return to in-person work for September and then pushing it back until October earlier this year, Apple has again pushed back the date until at least January of 2022. In a new report from Bloomberg, it is stated that the company sent a memo to employees saying that their return to the office has been pushed back again. This decision has to do with the growing number of COVID-19 cases around the world and the new Delta variant. Unlike other companies, Apple may not require COVID-19 vaccinations and will instead support frequent testing of staff when they return.

Apple Inc. is delaying its return to corporate offices from October until January at the earliest because of surging COVID-19 cases and new variants, according to a memo sent to employees on Thursday. The company told staff it would confirm the re-opening timeline one month before employees are required to return to the office.

In 2020, the company embraced the work-from-home culture and, so far, only a few employees have returned to the office. However, due to COVID-19 concerns, other employees will not return soon. This change in plans follows some other tech companies who have pushed their office returns to 2022.

Apple’s plans to return to the office have faced much criticism from employees who have embraced the work-from-home lifestyle and wish to continue working that way in the future. Regardless of employees' concerns, Apple plans to require three days in the office every week for all employees when they return.
