Facebook services down in global outage
- Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and other Facebook-owned services have been unavailable for hours.
- The cause of the issues are unknown, but it is likely related to DNS changes.
- The outage is global and is affecting everybody.
Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger and other services owned by Facebook are currently down in a major global outage for the company.
The services are currently unavailable and cannot be accessed from their websites or smartphone apps. It’s thought that all users are affected, and that the issues are related to DNS.
According to reports, BGP routes for all Facebook domains were withdrawn earlier today, resulting in long downtime and preventing access to domains. This affected all domains and is likely due to a configuration error, not a cyberattack, although Facebook hasn’t provided any further information.
The Facebook.com domain was also compromised and has been spotted as being available for purchase on domain hosting sites.
We will update this article with more information soon, and details about the ongoing outages.
