- These new microLED displays will eventually come to more Apple devices.
According to a new report from DigiTimes, a new Apple Watch Ultra with a microLED display will be released in 2024 or 2025. Apple is also rumored to bring this new technology to iPhones, iPads, and Macs in the future.
According to the rumor, Apple has been developing microLED technology since its acquisition of LuxVue in 2014. Due to the technology being more expensive and requiring more complicated production, Apple will reportedly launch the tech with the Apple Watch Ultra and later bring it to larger devices.
The new microLED technology will likely be supplied by ams OSRAM, with the potential for Epistar to become an additional supplier by 2027.

Several other sources have also rumored microLED displays on the Apple Watch Ultra, including Mark Gurman and Jeff Pu. Gurman, via Bloomberg, says that Apple’s microLED transition will be between 2024 and 2025, with the technology being about two years away.
Though microLED is rumored, Apple is still completing its slow transition from LCD to OLED display tech. Though Apple Watch and iPhone devices have been using OLED displays for years, rumors are circulating about the technology finally coming to iPad and Mac models in the next couple of years.
