- Rumors swirl about Apple's next big AI deal with Google’s Gemini.
- ChatGPT integration is just the beginning for Apple’s AI ambitions.
- WWDC hinted at massive AI updates coming to iOS this fall.
Apple recently entered the world of AI with a bang by striking a breakthrough partnership with OpenAI. The news left many in shock as the partnership was massive, truly signaling the heating up of the AI race with the arrival of the iPhone maker. Now, new reports hint that we could soon see another groundbreaking deal between the Cupertino firm and Google’s Gemini.
At this year’s WWDC, Apple announced its decision to integrate ChatGPT into a wide array of its latest iOS range. The company's head of software engineering shed light on this via a keynote, hinting that more deals with other tech giants were on the horizon, including Google’s Gemini. Despite being pressed for a timeline, no specific details were unveiled about when that might happen. However, new information from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman suggests that we might see this integration as soon as this fall.

This comes after rumors of Apple engaging in talks with other leading tech giants like Anthropic, Perplexity, and even Meta. However, Meta might no longer be part of this due to privacy concerns. Regardless of which firm ends up striking the deal with Apple, there would be no exchange of money, at least initially.
Apple seems intrigued by the launch of chatbots like ChatGPT Plus and others on its new lineup, which could lead to more subscriptions for partners, effectively equating to a form of payment. In case you didn't know, Apple already holds more than half of the American smartphone market share in recent months, making this a lucrative deal.

During WWDC 2024, Apple announced a significant upgrade to its operating systems with the integration of OpenAI’s ChatGPT into iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia. Users will be able to send documents or photos along with their queries to ChatGPT for detailed answers, and it will be accessible through Apple’s systemwide Writing Tools, enabling text generation as needed. Additionally, ChatGPT’s image generation capabilities will allow users to create context-relevant images.
Bloomberg has revealed that Apple is collaborating with Google to integrate Gemini, Google’s AI chatbot, into iOS later this year. This integration is expected to be part of the Apple Intelligence launch this fall, with a formal announcement rumored to be made around that time.
Despite brief discussions with Meta about incorporating its Llama chatbot, Apple ultimately decided against it due to privacy concerns and a preference for what it considers superior AI technologies from other companies. Apple has been vocal about Meta’s data collection practices, so incorporating Meta AI wouldn’t align with its privacy stance. Apple believes that OpenAI, Google, and Anthropic offer superior AI capabilities compared to Meta.
As we await more details on these exciting developments, it’s clear that Apple’s foray into AI is set to reshape the tech landscape. Stay tuned for updates as the AI wars continue to heat up.
