- The new models will come with more ports, a new design, MagSafe charging, a higher quality display and much more
- Pricing hasn’t been discussed but is expected to increase
Apple will announce two redesigned MacBook Pro models by November at the latest, according to information shared by Mark Gurman on Sunday.
The much-awaited updates to the MacBook Pro will see the first major changes since Apple introduced its custom silicon last year. One model will also replace the existing 16-inch model, which was first introduced in November 2019 and hasn’t been updated since.
Two sizes, 14-inch and 16-inch, are expected, and both are likely to ship with a Mini-LED display for deeper blacks, higher brightness and increased contrast ratio. The design will feature flat edges and more ports, including HDMI, more USB-C ports and an SD card reader.
Apple is also expected to revive MagSafe charging, like it did with the iPhone 12 last year. The port should look similar to MagSafe 2 connectors from the old MacBook Pro models and support faster charging.
The 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models will have an M1X or M2 chip. This chip is expected to support up to 64GB RAM and additional Thunderbolt / USB 4 ports. It will also have a 10-core CPU with 16-core and 32-core GPU options. The chip should debut with the new MacBook Pro models and won’t arrive any sooner.
In addition, the function keys could get larger, to match the design of the 24-inch iMac’s Magic Keyboard, the Touch Bar will be removed, and the webcam should be upgraded to a 1080p resolution.
In the same piece, Gurman suggested that Apple would announce a redesigned iPad mini, Apple Watch Series 7, AirPods 3, iPad 9th-generation and iPhone 13 this fall, although not at the same event.
