14-inch MacBook Pro to be more expensive than current model, leaker reports

  • The 14-inch MacBook Pro could see a significant price increase over the current 13-inch model
  • The leaker also reports that performance will not differ across the different sized models

Apple could increase the price of the upcoming 14-inch MacBook Pro to reflect the large improvements to performance, according to leaker ‘Dylandkt’.

Writing on Twitter, the account says that both the new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models will have the “same chip and the same performance”. This ties in with a report from Bloomberg that claimed the M1X chip will have a 10-core CPU with 16-core and 32-core GPU options, with support for up to 64GB RAM. Dylan also claims that the 14-inch MacBook Pro will be priced similar to the current high-end 13-inch model, around $1,799. The base 13-inch MacBook Pro models start at $1,299, so the price will raise by a large margin.

It’s comforting to note that both MacBook Pro’s that are coming this fall will have the same chip and the same performance. It’s definitely a win for those who like to opt for the smaller size but expect a notable increase in price for the 14 inch over the 13 inch.

The current 16-inch MacBook Pro with Intel chips starts at $2,399 and is not expected to have a price rise. Both models will feature a new design, with more ports, an increase in RAM, MagSafe charging, Mini-LED display and thermal improvements. They could launch by November, marking two years since the 16-inch model was introduced.

The 24-inch iMac, which launched in April with a new design and M1 chip, starts at $1,299. It is $200 more than the 21.5-inch model that it replaced, so the rumored price increase for the 13-inch MacBook Pro successor makes sense.
