Gurman: M1X MacBook Pros likely coming this month
- Apple could release new M1X MacBook Pros this month.
- These Macs could feature a refreshed design, new ports, and more.
With the iPhone 13 series and Apple Watch Series 7 already announced, many are anticipating Apple’s long-rumored M1X MacBook Pros. New reports from Bloomberg suggest that these refreshed Macs are still on track for release this year and are likely coming at an Apple event this month. These new MacBook Pros are expected to feature a new M1X Apple Silicon chip, an updated design, and new display technology. In the latest edition of Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman’s newsletter, Gurman (reliability: 84.38%) writes that these MacBook Pros are still expected this year and that they could come this month. He also notes that the new M1X chip will also be used to power a new Mac Mini.
The Apple M1X chip, the likely name for a more graphics-intense and professional-focused M1 chip, is indeed still on tap for 2021. We'll likely see it show up first in a new range of MacBook Pros in the next month and a higher-end Mac mini at some point. The M1X has been developed in two variations: both with 10 CPU cores (eight high-performance and two high-efficiency) and either 16 or 32 graphics cores.
The M1X MacBook Pro has been heavily rumored throughout the past year and is expected to come in 14-inch and 16-inch configurations and feature mini-LED display technology, a refreshed design, an SD card slot, an HDMI port, and MagSafe charging capabilities. Apple has also allegedly been considering removing the controversial Touch Bar from the device. Apple usually reveals new Macs in October, so these reports line up with Apple’s past tendencies. Besides these new MacBook Pros, Apple could reveal a new Mac Mini and the heavily rumored AirPods 3 at this October event.
