HBO Max to completely overhaul its buggy Apple TV app by the end of the year
- Users have been having many issues with the HBO Max app on Apple TV.
- These include issues with playback controls and other features.
- HBO will roll out a redesigned app for all platforms soon.
HBO has said a complete overhaul for its buggy Apple TV app is coming by the end of the year, states a new report from Vulture. This overhaul will hopefully fix a variety of known issues reported by users that are present in the current version.
Back in May, an update to the HBO Max app broke several features, causing a multitude of issues with features and services. In June, HBO Max decided to stop using the native tvOS video player in favor of a custom video player in the app. Shortly after the native player was removed, issues with the new player started to show, including issues with fast-forwarding and rewinding video. HBO quickly returned the native tvOS player after realizing that mistakes were made. However, some problems with playback control still remained, and new issues with subtitles and audio description have arisen.
In the wake of this, HBO has stated that it will be revamping the HBO Max app for all platforms, including Apple TV. This update will start first with Roku, and will continue to be rolled out for all platforms soon.
Apple TV customers will likely have to wait until the end of the year, while an overhaul of the mobile and web-based apps is penciled in for early 2022.
In this report from Vulture, it is stated that the issues worsened when HBO Max launched its new $10 ad-supported plan and expanded to 39 new countries in June. On top of that, WarnerMedia admitted that the current HBO Max service was not built from scratch, and is running on a retrofitted version of the old HBO Go and HBO Now Services. These old services have not handled the new HBO Max service very well, and this has led to the decision to offer a completely new app.
