Apple reverts to old Safari design in macOS Monterey and iPadOS 15.1
- Apple has removed the new tab bar design in updates to macOS and iPadOS.
- The old design was referenced on Apple’s website.
With iPadOS 15 and the beta of macOS Monterey, Apple overhauled the design of tabs in Safari. Users weren't happy with the change, so Apple included an option for a separate tab bar rather than the compact design shown at WWDC.
It appears that Apple has now completely reverted to the old tab bar design that is present in macOS Big Sur and iPadOS 14. While it cannot be confirmed yet, Apple has updated images on the macOS Monterey landing page to show the design of the old tab bar, which has less padding between tabs and is more pleasant.
The majority of the overhaul introduced in Safari 14 has seemingly been removed, if the updated graphics are correct. However, there will still be an option for users to enable the compact tab view if they prefer.
