iOS 15
  • This change was noticed in the betas of iOS 15 and macOS 12.
  • As of now, notes with mentions and tags cannot be viewed from devices running some older software versions.

One of the many changes that Apple announced in iOS 15 and macOS 12 Monterey is a more fully functional notes app. Within notes, users will now be able to mention others and add tags to organize the notes more easily. It has been uncovered recently that notes including these new tags and mentions are not viewable on devices not running the new software. This could be changed with the final build later this year, but as of now, this is the case.

When saving a note on iOS 15 or macOS 12 Monterey, you will be notified of any devices linked to your iCloud account that will not be able to see that note. Devices running software older than iOS 14.5, and macOS 11.3 will be listed. Surprisingly, the latest versions of iOS and macOS are partially compatible and the notes will be viewable there. iOS 15 and macOS 12 Monterey are currently in beta and will be released to the general public this fall alongside tvOS 15 and watchOS 8. Betas are available to anyone now, but should only be run on secondary devices as they could face app compatibility problems and major bugs.
