Everything to expect at Apple's 'Spring Loaded' event
- Apple officially announced its April 20th 'Spring Loaded' event earlier today.
- The virtual event may reveal many rumored new devices.
- After months of reporting on everything from AirPods to AirTags, we may be only a week away from Apple's first 2021 hardware release.
After Apple’s disappointing March event (or lack thereof), we may finally see many leaked products announced (and Jon Prosser’s redemption) on April 20th. While there are many unreleased products yet to be shipped, these are a few of the most likely candidates set for an April announcement.

First off, the two year old second generation AirPods might be replaced at the ‘Spring Loaded’ event. The updated AirPods may feature a design similar to AirPods Pro, better passive noise cancellation and Spatial Audio. While analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claims they will not enter production until Q3 , various other reports point to a spring release (possibly on the 20th). Due to the multitude of predictions on this product, remember that nothing is official until it is announced (as you should for all product rumors mentioned hereafter).
AirTagsAfter countless AirTags leaks, rumors and predictions, it feels as if the product has already been launched. However, after two years there are several signs that they will finally launch at the April event. From various snippets of leaked Find My code to Apple themselves accidentally confirming the existence of the locators in a support video, it’s about time AirTags hit the shelves. The launch of multiple competitors to the unreleased accessory that are compatible with Apple’s own Find My network puts more pressure than ever for Apple to announce the long awaited item trackers.
New colors for spring accessoriesEarlier this month, rumors of Apple’s plans for this year’s spring refresh and new colors for iPhone 12 cases began circulating. The alleged color names are Pistachio, Capri Blue, Cantaloupe, and Amethyst, according to an anonymous Twitter user named Tommy. Apple has released new accessories in the spring for years, it’s difficult to tell which colours make it to which device accessories. There have also been rumors about several new Apple Watch accessories.

Only a year after the launch of the last iteration of Apple’s highest end iPad, an iPad Pro refresh may be in for an April unveiling on the 20th, according to multiple reports. This updated model is rumored to remain nearly identical to the previous model when it comes to overall look and feel, however this updated iPad Pro may feature a mini-LED display on the 12.9” model and a major boost in performance with the A14X Bionic — putting the Pro on par with an M1 Mac.
Possible: Apple TVIt’s no secret that the Apple TV needs a makeover — a top to bottom refresh of everything from its display capabilities to three year old processor. Luckily, a new feature rich Apple TV could also be revealed on the 20th with everything from 120Hz support to better gaming functionality with Apple Arcade and other services. However, this rumor is not quite as widely agreed upon among analysts and should therefore be taken with a grain of salt.
Possible: iMacSimilar to the Apple TV, Apple’s iMac is not nearly as appealing as its competitors or other Macs (and is equally if not in more need of a drastic refresh). Interestingly, we may see quite the major makeover of the iMac , from new throwback colours, a striking design and a brand new Apple Silicon chipset. While some suggest the new iMac is "ready to launch" and may be announced at the ‘Spring Loaded’ event, others allege Apple is preparing for a launch later into this year.
As with all of Apple’s events from last year, the April 2021 event will be an all-digital gathering with no members of the media invited to attend in person due to the ongoing public health crisis. You will be able to watch the Apple Event live on Apple’s website or YouTube, as well as on certain Apple TV models. While no terribly groundbreaking products are rumored to be announced, the potential additions to the updated devices continue to improve upon already industry leading devices from Apple.
