Apple recently hosted their highly-anticipated ‘Spring Loaded’ event, where they unveiled 5 new products; including a new iPad Pro, a redesigned iMac, all-new Apple TV 4K, a new Podcasts subscription service, and the long-rumored AirTags item trackers. While rumors and leaks over the past few months already revealed almost everything, let’s take a deep dive and discuss everything Apple officially announced earlier today.
iPad Pro
Let’s start off with the new iPad Pro — powered by the insanely powerful Apple M1 chip. The new iPad Pro’s are supposedly 40% more powerful in graphics when compared to the already powerful A12Z on last year’s iPad. Alongside new SoC (system-on-a-chip) upgrades, there have also been several camera upgrades, with this year’s iPad Pro’s featuring a new Ultra-Wide Camera and a TrueDepth front-facing camera alongside ISP upgrades. It is also the first iPad to offer a 2 Terabyte configuration.
Finally, the iPad Pro 12.9” will come with a new mini-LED display. Apple is calling the display ‘Liquid Retina XDR.’ The starting price starts from $799 for the 11-inch model, and the iPad Pro 12.9-inch starts from $1,099 USD.
iMac
Apple also showcased their completely revamped iMac during the event, which runs on the Apple-designed M1 chip alongside the new iPad Pro. The M1 chip is significantly more powerful than it’s predecessors, which run on Intel based chips, with over 50% graphics improvements and 80% CPU improvements, Apple said. Not only that, but it also comes with a stunning new design that is available in seven new colors.
The new iMac is extraordinarily thin, being 50% thinner than previous generations of iMac models, Apple said. Along with a 4.5K Retina display and an improved speaker system, the iMac now boasts 4 USB-C ports. And finally, the new iMac models bring much-needed upgrades to the FaceTime HD camera, with a brand new sensor that is capable of 1080p. The new iMac starts from $1,299 USD.
Apple TV 4K
Cupertino also unveiled their latest upgrade to the Apple TV 4K, which now runs on the Apple A12 chip. The A12 chip was used on the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR released in 2018. The new Apple TV also comes with a redesigned Apple Remote that comes with a scroll wheel similar to that of an iPod. Additionally, Apple introduced a new feature that allows users to calibrate their TV’s via their iPhone using the camera. The new Apple TV starts from $179 USD for the 32GB model and $199 USD for the 64GB.
AirTags
Now for the much-awaited AirTags. AirTags are the new rival to the ‘Tile’ ecosystem of tracking devices. Apple announced that their new item trackers will take advantage of ultra-wideband technology for the absolute best precision in any tracker to date. AirTags are splash, water, and dust-resistant and were tested under controlled laboratory conditions with a rating of IP67. Apple’s AirTags are designed for over a year’s worth of battery life with everyday use, according to Apple’s Newsroom.
The 50-cent coin sized AirTags will have a user-replaceable battery and a built-in speaker. AirTags will only set you back $29 each, or $99 for four, according to Apple. Accessories are also available with the Hermès luggage tag costing all the way up to $449… for one.
Podcasts
And finally on this list is the new Podcast Subscription Service that Apple announced during the beginning of the event. According to Cupertino, this new subscription service will launch in May. It would allow listeners to access ad-free listening, as well as exclusive access to Podcasts. This new service will be available in over 170 countries according to the company. To wrap it all up, Apple also showcased a new purple color for the iPhone 12, launched last year.
