Instagram testing outage alerts to better inform you of a technical issue

  • Instagram is testing new outage alert futures.
  • Instagram says these alerts will likely be saved for more serious outages.

Facebook recently encountered a multitude of outages which took down all of their social media networks. The company has now announced that they will be testing outage alerts for Instagram to better inform users of ongoing outages with company services. Instagram says that users can get confused and will start looking for answers when these unexpected outages happen. This is why Instagram is now testing outage notifications to let you know whenever there is a technical issue within the service. Instagram has also stated that not every outage will receive a notification, so these alerts will likely be saved for more serious outages.

We’re testing a new feature that will notify you in your Activity Feed when we experience an outage or technical issue, and when it is resolved. We won’t send a notification every single time there is an outage, but when we see that people are confused and looking for answers, we’ll determine if something like this could help make things clearer.
