Snapchat could soon let you change your username
- There is currently no way to change your username on Snapchat.
- The feature is in early development and may change.
- Once you change your username, it can’t be used again.
Since it was introduced, Snapchat hasn’t let users change their usernames, and to obtain a new username, you would have to create a new account. This could soon change, as Snapchat appears to be developing the option to change your username.
According to screenshots shared by Alessandro Paluzzi, it will be possible to change your Snapchat username once a year. After you change your username, nobody, including yourself, will be able to obtain the old one.
Snapchat could also place a symbol or emoji on the profile page of users who have updated their username in the past year, the images suggest.
The features are likely in early development and will not be available to users on iOS or Android anytime soon. It’s also possible that this implementation changes before public release.
Snapchat has been slow to introduce new features to its app. It only recently rolled out dark mode on iOS, despite the feature shipping with iOS 13, two years ago. It has also refused to let users change their username, despite other platforms, like Twitter, Instagram and TikTok, allowing users to do so.
