  • A new color scheme and other visual changes are rolling out to the Twitter app on iOS and iPadOS.
  • The app no longer uses the device’s default font and moves to a custom typeface called ‘Chirp.’
  • The updates are available now and will come alongside more changes in the coming weeks.

Update #1:

Twitter has confirmed that it will be rolling out changes to the new design in response to user feedback. It promises to continue "listening and iterating".

Twitter is rolling out a new design on the web and to the mobile apps on iPhone, iPad, and Android. The changes include the release of a new custom font, higher-contrast UI elements, and simplification of the design.

In January, Twitter pushed its new ‘Chirp’ typeface to some users on mobile, and is now rolling that out further to users on desktop. It means that the platform will no longer use the default SF Pro Display, Helvetica, or Segoe UI fonts on Apple devices and Windows PCs.<.p>

The design has been updated with a white/black color scheme, reducing the reliance on blue in buttons, icons, and links, and is more consistent across all devices. Twitter says that there are “fewer grey backgrounds” and “unnecessary” elements, such as divider lines.

However, while the new design has been well received from an accessibility standpoint, the rollout of the Chirp font, especially on desktop, has not. It has been criticized for being hard to read and blurry, with the hashtag “New Twitter” currently trending with over 1.8 million tweets.

Apple Scoop was able to verify the changes, and also confirmed that a redesigned settings page in the mobile app was available for some users. The new interface has clearer sections with icons and descriptions about each page.
